Belangrijke inhoudsstoffen:

hypericine, hyperforine

Waarschuwing:

Sint-Janskruid (SJK) kan na inname bij sommige mensen zonnebrand veroorzaken.
Dit komt doordat de stof hypericine zich opstapelt in de huid en deze zeer gevoelig maakt voor uv-licht (fotosensibilisatie).
SJK is giftig voor vee en staat op de lijst van schadelijke planten (bij vergiftiging kan, net als bij mensen, zonnebrand worden waargenomen).
Voor paarden is twee kilo vers blad voldoende om symptomen te veroorzaken.
Uit onderzoek is gebleken dat SJK invloed heeft op hoe de lever bepaalde medicaties verwerkt.
Vraag advies aan een apotheker of medicus alvorens SJK te gebruiken, met name wanneer je de anticonceptiepil of immuunsuppressiva (geneesmiddelen die de werking van het afweersysteem remmen) gebruikt.
