Waarschuwing:
- Echte salie is bij juiste dosering over het algemeen een veilig kruid.
- Langdurige inname van een te hoge dosis, zeker van de etherische olie, kan wel vergiftigingsverschijnselen veroorzaken (door thujon): droge mond, misselijkheid, braken e.a.
- Vrouwen moeten extra voorzichtig zijn: zwangeren kunnen het beste geen salie in de vorm van tinctuur of etherische olie gebruiken, omdat deze de baarmoeder prikkelen.
- Ook zogende vrouwen moeten salie vermijden, omdat het de melkgift remt.
